Glimpse of a Life Through Lyrics

strum

So I speak to you in riddles
‘Cause my words get in my way
I smoke the whole thing to my head
And feel it wash away (1)

Words speak and choose
make sense and lose
capsize the tall tale, but always fail
words speak and choose, make sense and lose
forfeit the tall tale, I always will (2)

I am colorblind
Coffee black and egg white
Pull me out from inside
I am ready
I am taffy stuck and tongue tied
Stutter shook and uptight
Pull me out from inside
I am ready
I am fine (3)

Someday they’ll open up your world
Shake you down to the drawing board
Do their best to change you
They still can’t erase you (4)

No, it’s not that easy being green
It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you over
‘cause you’re not standing out like flashy sparkles on the water
Or stars in the sky (5)

A slow strangle with feet on the floor
I’ve got fourteen angels and we’re sleeping alone
In the back of a cave, where the rest of us go
To feel normal (6)

Bows and flows of angel hair and ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere, I’ve looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun, they rain and they snow on everyone
So many things I would have done but clouds got in my way (7)

The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky
Are also on the faces, of people going by
I see friends shaking hands, sayin’, “How do you do?”
They’re really sayin’, “I love you.” (8)

I don’t want to start
Any blasphemous rumors
But I think that God’s
Got a sick sense of humor
And when I die
I expect to find Him laughing (9)

Frightened by a dream, you’re not the only one
Running like the wind, thoughts can come undone
Dancing behind masks, just sort of pantomime
But images reveal whatever lonely hearts can hide (10)

I was alone thinking I was just fine
I wasn’t looking for anyone to be mine
I thought love was just a fabrication
A train that wouldn’t stop at my station
Home, alone, that was my consignment
Solitary confinement (11)

This girl I know needs some shelter
She don’t believe anyone can help her
She’s doing so much harm, doing so much damage
But you don’t want to get involved
You tell her she can manage
And you can’t change the way she feels (12)

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life? (13)

I am thinking it’s a sign that the freckles
In our eyes are mirror images and when
We kiss they’re perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay (14)

I don’t mind the sun sometimes
The images it shows
I can taste you on my lips
And smell you in my clothes
Cinnamon and sugary
And softly spoken lies
You never know just how you look
Through other people’s eyes (15)

Visions of you on a motorcycle drive by
The cigarette ash flies in your eyes
And you don’t mind, you smile
And say the world it doesn’t fit with you
I don’t believe you, you’re so serene
Careening through the universe
Your axis on a tilt , you’re guiltless and free
I hope you take a piece of me with you (16)

And I knew
In the crystalline knowledge of you
Drove me through the mountains
Through the crystal-like clear water fountain
Drove me like a magnet
To the sea (17)

When you’re on the outside baby and you can’t get in
I will show you, you’re so much better than you know
When you’re lost and you’re alone and you can’t get back again
I will find you, darling and I will bring you home (18)

You can express your deepest of truths even if it means I’ll lose you and I’ll hear it
You can fall into the abyss on your way to your bliss I’ll empathize with
You can say that you have to skip town to chase your passion and I’ll hear it (19)

What if I’d been born fifty years before you
In a house on the street where you live?
Maybe I’d be outside as you passed on your bike
Would I know?
And in a wide sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know that I am
I am the luckiest (20)

I grabbed some frozen strawberries so I could ice your bruising knees
But frozen things they all unfreeze and now I taste like…
All those frozen strawberries I used to chill your bruising knees
Hot July ain’t good to me
I’m pink and black and blue for you (21)

There’s a saltwater film
on the jar of your ashes
I threw them to sea
but a gust blew them backwards
and the sting in my eyes
which you then inflicted
was par for the course (22)

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship’s smoke on the horizon
You are the only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can’t hear what you’re saying (23)

It’s somewhere I can taste the salt of the sea
There’s a kite blowing out of control on the breeze
I wonder what’s gonna happen to you
You wonder what has happened to me (24)

Soundless, boundless, I surround you (25)

Tiny curtains open and we heard the tiny clap of little hands
A tiny man would tell a little joke and get a tiny laugh from all the folks
Sitting drifting around in bubbles and thinking it was us that carried them
When we finally got it figured out that we had truly missed the boat (26)

And I wish you all the love in the world
But most of all, I wish it from myself (27)

Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

    The Indian says:

what else can you say…”the near to your destination the more you keep sliding away…” I remember making cassette tapes about people i loved and every lyric was chosen to the “T”…this was inspiringly-creepy if you get my drift. If in doubt sitting on the dock of the bay, staying alive means its on the radio don’t be coi-roy just hop on the bus Gus, cause you know i would die for you…on and on and on…

Ha! Indian. Did you just say “don’t be coy, Roy, hop on the bus, Gus”? Classic! Yes, I always get your drift.
